Linda and Paul McCartney - STARS OF WISDOM - Charities: Adopt A Minefield, Cancer Research/Prevention, and Amnesty International

Sir James Paul McCartney, MBE (born 18 June 1942) British singer, musician, composer, producer and devoted advocate for various charities. Paul is recognized as one of the greatest musical icons of the twentieth century, and his songs such as "Hey Jude", "Let It Be" & "Yesterday" are frequently ranked among the best songs in music history.

Paul first met Linda at the June 1, 1967 launch party for Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. He and Linda married at a civil ceremony at Marylebone Registry Office in 1969. They had remained happily married and utterly devoted to each other. Sadly Linda lost her battle with cancer but her endearing legacy of utmost kindness and devotion will always be honoured and remembered.

Paul and Linda McCartney has generously supported many charities, activist for animal rights, cancer prevention/research, education and the elimination of land mines. Since the death of Linda McCartney Paul has continued to give his support and funding. The following are some of many organizations Paul supports and in honour of his beloved wife "Linda"

Breakthrough Breast Cancer a leading UK breast cancer organization dedicated to fund raising and research in partnership with the Institute of Cancer Research. The Breakthrough Breast Cancer organization also campaigns for better treatment and services, and have worked with other cancer charities and health professionals.

VIVA! Campaign for Animals an organization campaigning on behalf of animals that are killed. Viva are involved in investigations of factory farms and then produce campaign materials for students and activists. Viva is a non-profit international organization registered in the USA.

Adopt-A-Minefield is a campaign of the United Nations Association of the USA, which engages individuals, community groups, and businesses in the United Nations effort to resolve the global landmine crisis. The Campaign helps save lives by raising funds to remove mines, provide survivor assistance and raising awareness about the landmine crisis.

Amnesty International is a worldwide movement of people who campaign for internationally recognized human rights. In pursuit of this vision, their mission is to undertake research and action focused on preventing and ending grave abuses of the rights to physical and mental integrity, freedom of conscience and expression, and freedom from discrimination, within the context of its work to promote all human rights.

The Garland Appeal national foundation formed in memory of Linda McCartney. The Garland Appeal raises funds to support early detection of breast cancer.

Save the Seals Hundreds of thousands of baby seals are clubbed or shot without mercy. Seal pups remain helpless and vulnerable on the ice for several weeks. 95% of the harp seals killed are less than 3 months old. Many will be left to die under the ice, some baby seals may even be skinned alive.
