Useful
Informational Guide:
PHOTOS
Most importantly are close-up head shots called "Composites",
the industry standard size prints are 8 x 10 photos. Photos are essential
for actresses, actors, models and dancers. We recommend you Include
at least 4x full body shots taken at various angles/poses. Highlight
your best features such as your eyes, hands, feet, or lips. Also, you
may want to include 1x black & white head-shot. Photos are definitely
a most important marketing tool. People need to know what they're getting
when they call you in to audition. So, if you are not a model-type,
please do not get glamorous headshots. But if you are gorgeous, let
the viewer know. Appearance is important, lasting impressions come from
that first glance. Your headshot is your business card. Remember casting
directors will glance once at your picture, so you have only one chance
to capture their interest. Professional photos are very expensive, but
you won't get very far without them. You can spend anywhere between
$50 - $600. Don't take photos using cheap disposable or low res digital
camera's. Professional high quality photos are very crucial. Also consider
the best photographers are well connected so this presents a chance
to acquire referrals to local agencies.
PHOTO TIPS
1 - To make your face look sleek, always keep your chin out and tilt
your face straight forward toward the camera (not down).
2 - Don't use heavy
eye liner, dark eye liner on upper and lower lash lines will make your
eyes seem smaller and squinty.
3 - Dark lip hue
can make you lips look smaller.
PHOTO SHOOTS
At some point in our lives, well most likely be asked to pose
for a professional photographer - for an engagement announcement, family
portrait, or work-related event. As most photographs in drivers
licenses and passports show, its not necessarily a happy occasion.
We appear frozen with fear and discomfort, as if facing a firing squad
instead of a camera. Yet the experience need not be so torturous, or
the outcome so depressing. Be confident and relax.
RESUME
There are certain standards for an actor's resume. It must be well-written
and professional. List all of your past and current training, experiences
(TV, Film, Etc'), talents, skills, etc. Attach your head-shot photo
back-to-back with an 8 x 10 resume with staples neatly in each corner,
or get resumes professionally printed on the back of your photos. Your
resume will have your name at the top, then the names of any actors'
unions to which you belong. A voice mail or message service phone number
should be prominent so that the agents will know how to contact you
(this will eventually be replaced with your agency information). Your
height, weight, eye and hair colors come next. Below that, begin listing
your credits, or the things that you've acted in (extra work doesn't
count). If you have any film experience, that comes first under the
heading "Film." Television credits are next on the page, followed
by Theater, Training and Education, and finally Special Skills (e.g.,
surfing, gymnastics, certified scuba diver). Once you have an agent,
he or she will probably have specific layout preferences. Don't stress
too much about the resume if you are just getting started. Agencies
are much more concerned with your look
and your personality than your experience or your talent
ASPIRING ACTORS
ACTRESSES
Your success in the entertainment industry relies solely on connections
and who you know. We believe the only way to acquire these connections
is to audition in front of 500 major casting directors, producers, magazines,
corporations over 1200 talent agencies. If you do your best and know
you have performed your audition perfectly but didn't get the part?
Don't be daunted, don't ever give up, a great audition doesn't guarantee
you will get the part, it all depends on what the casting and producers
want, whatever their opinions might be. If you want to be successful
you must never give up, you must always be determined, be positive and
happy, but most of all... don't expect to get every part for every audition
you apply for.
TALENT AGENCIES
It is your responsibility to select an agent which is right for you,
and you can do so by simply sending out your picture and resume to all
the agents in your area. They will call you back and schedule an audition
only if they are impressed with your picture. Every city or town has
well-established talent agencies. Contact a few different agencies and
see what they say. The key to success is an agent that is established
and experienced! Ask for references and credentials before signing any
contracts. We advise you to sign a non-exclusive 1-2 year contract
with a local talent agency to make certain they perform their duties
professionally
SCHOOL &
TRAINING
Acting may seem easy. Often enough actresses/actors don't get the part
because they lack the training and experience. There are many schools
and classes that specialize in different entertainment fields such as
commercial acting, printwork, runway modeling, etc. Decide on what it
is you're best suited for and most interested in, and focus your training
on that. Great training may cost a substantial amount of money, however
it will play an important part in reaching your goals. Be careful in
your selections because there are many frauds. Always check references
& credentials.
SINGERS
You really want to know if you're good!?!, start singing for strangers.
Be professional and put a package together, record labels and music
industry moguls want the whole package. Have pictures, a bio, and your
music always available to give out. If you don't know how to get started,
we can help you. Don't get caught in a good opportunity unprepared.
If you want to become successful, you have to work hard. Don't be intimidated
if someone asks you to sing on the spot because that's what they will
do. If you won't sing in front of five people, they won't put you in
front of 5,000. Be proud and just do what you're good at, that's why
you wanted to be here. Stop making excuses, and start singing.
MUSICIANS - BANDS
The most important tools are your CD and Video, and never refer to a
CD or Video as "Demo's" when opportunity comes along you want
to be well prepared, have professional impact, you need to capture their
attention. The music business is a very competitive industry. Auditions:
A lot of agencies, record companies and publishers will listen to just
the first part of your material, and if your song or video doesn't capture
their interests within 15 to 60 seconds they will switch off. Always
keep photos, resumes and media press clippings organized in a portfolio
for auditions, mail-outs and meetings. Also keep a list of valuable
contacts names, addresses and always be respectful at auditions and
meetings because you never know just how valuable a contact may be.
Contacts are a vital tool. The best resource is the "Music Industry
Directory" listing names, addresses and phone numbers for agencies,
record companies, publishers, photographers, video production, etc'.
